eden house
Eden House is located in Portland’s southwest hills on an irregular lot shaped by a gradual compression from front to back, a condition that became the primary driver of the design. Rather than treating this geometry as a limitation, the home frames the entire site as an uncovered living space, prioritizing privacy while making the property feel larger than its physical boundaries suggest. The main living space anchors this idea, opening to both the front and back yards and allowing daily life to unfold along a single, elongated indoor–outdoor axis. Carefully framed views, staggered volumes, and expansive openings pull light and landscape through the house, reinforcing a sense of openness while maintaining retreat from neighboring properties. The result is a calm, site-responsive home where spatial sequencing, not excess square footage, creates clarity, generosity, and ease.
